Essex National Heritage CommissionAnnie C. Harris, Executive DirectorEssex Coastal Scenic Byway Wayfinding Signage SystemRequestsRequests that the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway Wayfinding Signage System be programmed in the FFY 2013 element of the FFYs 2013-2016 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The project entails the planning, fabrication, and installation of directional signage along the entire 85-mile route of the state-designated Essex Coastal Scenic Byway. The signage system was identified as a high priority recommendation of the Byway's federally funded corridor management plan. This project will be funded by a 2011 National Scenic Byway Discretionary Grant awarded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Non-federal matching funds are to be provided by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
Medford ResidentKen KrausePurchase of 10 New Commuter Rail LocomotivesSupportsExpresses support for the programming of Statewide Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) funding for the purchase of 10 new locomotives for MBTA commuter rail service. Notes that the Commonwealth is required to implement a series of interim emission reduction offset projects for failing to complete the Green Line Extension (GLX) by the State Implementation Plan (SIP) deadline of December 31, 2014. Suggests that the MPO request that the new locomotives be assigned to the Lowell and Fitchburg commuter rail lines, which travel in the GLX corridor, in order to help bring about the emission reductions equal to or greater than the reductions projected for the Green Line Extension.
State RepresentativeWilliam C. GalvinI-95/I-93 Interchange and Dedham Street Corridor (Canton)RequestsRequests funding in the FFYs 2013-16 TIP for improvements to the I-93/I-95 Interchange and the Dedham Street Corridor in Canton. These enhancements would support the proposal of a 2.1 million square foot development planned for the area. This proposal contains 750,000 square feet of retail, 500,000 square feet of office space, and 850,000 square feet for residential use. These transportation improvements are essential to address current traffic congestion problems.
Town of CantonWilliam T. Friel, Town AdministratorDedham Street Corridor (Canton)RequestsRequests funding in the FFYs 2013-16 TIP for improvements to the Dedham Street Corridor in Canton, independent of the I-93/I-95 Interchange project. The corridor improvements consist of providing access to the existing on-ramp from Dedham Street westbound and constructing the northbound off-ramp. These improvements will provide enhanced connections to the Route 128 Commuter Rail and Amtrak Station, direct access from existing and proposed existing activity centers, and reduced congestion on local roadways.
City of CambridgeBrian P. Murphy, Assistant City Manager for Community DevelopmentCambridge CommonRequestsRequests approximately $400,000 of additional funding for Cambridge Common in FFY 2013 of the TIP. This funding would cover full depth reconstruction for a portion of Massachusetts Avenue within the project limits that could no longer be restored through a mill and overlay process. The City identified this issue as part of its final reviews before submission of 100% design to MassDOT. Notes that the project will address significant deficiencies in multi-modal transportation access.
