Concord Statement of Candidacy

The Town of Concord seeks election to the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization’s At-Large Town seat to bring a thoughtful municipal perspective to regional transportation planning and Investment.

Concord recently completed a comprehensive Transportation Strategy focused on safety, multimodal connectivity, regional access, sustainability, and expanding transportation choices. The process reinforced that many transportation challenges cannot be addressed within municipal boundaries alone and require coordination among neighboring communities, regional partners, and state agencies.

Concord is also actively engaged in transportation and land-use planning where local, regional, and state interests intersect. Ongoing planning with MassDOT for improvements to the Route 2 Concord Rotary is one example, requiring consideration of regional travel, local circulation, safety, multimodal connections, and future land use.

Concord also shares the MPO’s commitment to meaningful public engagement. We are working to reach beyond traditional public meetings, create more proactive opportunities for participation, and better understand whose perspectives are represented in municipal decision-making. We value the MPO’s emphasis on continually evaluating and improving engagement efforts.

If elected, Concord would approach the At-Large Town seat with an understanding that the responsibility extends beyond any one municipality. We would bring our local experience to the table while listening to the needs of communities throughout the region and supporting a collaborative, data-informed approach to long-term transportation planning.
