Bluebikes, a docked bikesharing service, is the Boston region’s largest micromobility system. The Bluebikes system complements transit during regular service and has supported MBTA riders when diversions occurred.
MPO staff analyzed network and trip data to identify where Bluebikes and MBTA connections have the strongest potential and where gaps remain. Additionally, staff conducted research on best practices for bikeshare station siting and bikeshare-transit integration. This study resulted in an interactive report and a supplementary literature review:
- The Bluebikes and MBTA Connections StoryMap provides an overview of the Bluebikes system, an analysis of network connections between MBTA bus and rail service and Bluebikes, and an analysis of potential trip-making patterns of Bluebikes users near transit.
- The Bluebikes Station Siting Considerations and Opportunities for Transit Integration: Review of the Literature briefing provides an overview on station siting considerations for planners interested in joining or expanding their Bluebikes network and a discussion of opportunities to better integrate bikeshare and transit systems.
